We have played a key role in the training of teachers for many years and have worked closely with the universities of Exeter, Plymouth and Nottingham to combine the best of their expertise with our own unique contribution, to provide an outstanding and sought-after setting which delivers a unique learning opportunity for ITT students. This includes a creative and innovative use of ICT, a sharp focus on individual assessment and guidance for future learning - all bringing a high degree of personalised education with a persistent focus on imaginative learning opportunities and outcomes.
Cornerstone offers a School Direct programme spread across an alliance of schools providing early years to secondary qualifications. We have created a bespoke and comprehensive teacher training programme which is accredited by Exeter University; you will receive an Exeter University PGCE qualification on completion of the course.
In recent years, we have demonstrated that our high quality teacher training produces qualified teachers of an extremely high calibre who are sought after by us, and by colleagues in the partnership.
Trainees benefit from our broad, skills-based curriculum which challenges teachers' pedagogy and they also experience a diverse range of pupil abilities including a high number of children with complex SEN. Almost all of our students over the last three years have gained permanent teaching posts.
Pupils and staff benefit from the new ideas, energy and enthusiasm from colleagues who are fresh from studying the latest research and educational pedagogy. The evidence of the impact on pupil outcomes is well documented by Ofsted and seen in our exceptional levels of attainment.
The course is managed and co-ordinated by Alex Pulfer, the initial teacher training mentor. Alex mentors the School Direct students across the Cornerstone alliance. Her role is to support each student throughout the year to develop and improve their teaching and to learn the professional expectations based on a training programme that covers the whole year.
